EXPERIENCED TEACHER WANTS TO TUTOR YOUR CHILD IN MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA!!

. . . and for a limited time, I am offering a 20% discount on all tutorials, both private and small group classes,
in all subjects in the convenience of your homes. This offer is only available to students living in Manchester-by-the-Sea.

I am a reading specialist and experienced educator of 12 years, with an M.S., in education and a former special education teacher and academic case manager at the Landmark School.

Subjects offered:Language arts-reading, writing, comprehension and grammar

Reading support and intervention covering the 5 components of reading (phonetic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension)
Test preparation in the PSAT, SAT and TOEFL and general test taking
Study Skills and Organization
English for ESL and ELL
Project and/or Presentation Help (PowerPoint, Research paper)
Homework Help

Types of Classes:

Private, one-one tutorials
Small group classes

*Rates:

1-1 private tutorials in all other subject areas, $60.00 per 55 minute class

**Small group classes-vary depending on subject and number of students, but generally, for each student in the class, I take $5.00 off the general tutoring rate of $50.00. So for instance, a small class of 6 students would cost each student $20.00 per class.

*Rates listed DO NOT REFLECT THE 20% DISCOUNT SPECIAL RATE FOR NEW STUDENTS IN MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA.
**Classes most appropriate for small groups include reading support, study skills and test preparation.

My office (where I usually hold classes) is located in the Chamber of Commerce Building, 33 Commercial St., Gloucester, MA.

I have also held tutorial sessions at outside programs or organizations, such as the YMCA, afterschool programs at local schools, and martial arts studios, both one-one and small group.

I am currently talking to a few local clubs, where parents are members. I want to offer tutorials at these establishments while parents partake in their chosen sport or activity. It’s a win-win situation for all!
If you are a club member of a Manchester organization, and would like to take advantage of this option, there would be an additional discount.

You can go to my website (which is currently under construction) @ www.testprepandtutoring.com. This site is geared mostly towards my ESL and ELL international students and online learning. But, I am adding information on my in-person, local reading intervention tutorials with helpful links, current research and tools for finding out state standards by grade. I expect this section to be up by next week (today is February 1, 2012. In the meantime, please feel free to contact me for additional information, questions or to schedule your child’s tutorials. In addition to teaching, I do consulting and professional development for educational facilities, most recently for the Eastern Point Day School in Gloucester. I offer free, 30-minute consultations with parents at my office or their home to discuss their concerns, answer questions, provide resources, talk about IEP’s and arrange to explain my reading assessments.

Thank you so much, and I hope to hear from you soon fellow Manchester-by-the-Sea residents!

Hi Everyone!

My name is Diana Smith, and my fiance is Chris Lawson. We just moved here for the winter, and have actually met quite a few neighbors while walking through the neighborhood and strolling on the beach! But we have been jammed with moving, and our mutual businesses and of course, the holidays where everyone came HERE (we hadn’t even unpacked yet!) and really felt a bit panicked when I realized we only have another 4-5 months left here. Then a big move down south. Whew!

I also wanted to get the word out that at least for a short while, Manchester not only has two new friendly neighbors, but we each own and operate respective services that might be of great value to the fine folks in Manchester.

I own and operate a tutoring company in Gloucester after 12+ years of teaching and special education supervising. I can teach any subject (okay, not true. I can only teach math up to algebra, maybe pre-algebra, and no science), and still teach a few older students in study skills, language arts, critical thinking and actually, do quite a bit of SAT, PSAT and ISEE, preparation still, plus I teach ESL online for TEOFL preparation, BUT I try and keep myself available to my struggling readers, K-3, who I work with one-one, in structured, specialized tutorials. I also hold small group reading support classes, 2-4 students, grades K-6, who don’t necessarily have reading challenges, but they may be feeling a little pressure, or may have some gaps and weaknesses, and this type of support with extra instruction and practice really does wonders for their skills and the confidence. Elementary school is tough these days! So i am available, and would love to come to your home here in Manchester if it can save us both a drive to Gloucester!

And, I did not come alone. I also brought the “Tile Master”, Chris Lawson, owner of Tile Excellence, Inc., also out of Gloucester. A tile guy for over 30 years, he does incredible work. And I know HE would rather take a little drive down the road here in Manchester, smelling the ocean while he works, then drive to Boston or Middleton, as he services almost every town North of Boston. So we hope our services will be useful, to people in town, but we already know it benefits us to stay close! Especially in the winter, when neither of us like to travel much.
.

You can reach me at 978-879-3992, and my email is options2825@gmail.com.My office is located at 33 Commercial St. in Gloucester, in the Chamber of Commerce building. You are welcome to visit my webpage, but it’s been under construction for a while, as I’m the webmaster-actually I created and maintain Chris’s webpage too (below), so anyways, bear with the …ugly …appearance of my site.

You can reach Chris at Tile Excellence, Inc. @ 978 471-9127, email tileexcellence@gmail.com. And you can visit his webpage to see some greats pics of local jobs with local written testimonials on the site as well. www.tileexcellence.com

Thanks!
Diana (and Chris)
